When memory fades

“And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.”Judges 2:10 · KJV

Read in your Bible: Judges 2–4.

Judges explains the recurring pattern of turning from God, oppression, distress and deliverance. A generation arises without the knowledge that should have shaped its life. In the account of Deborah and Barak, God works through people called into responsibility amid that decline.

Spiritual inheritance cannot be assumed simply because a community has a faithful past. Knowing facts about earlier deliverance differs from learning to trust and obey God now. The book's accounts of conflict also require moral care rather than romantic admiration for every action described.

Ask what your community is actually passing on through its habits. Make room for Scripture, honest questions and practical service. Encourage someone's faithful contribution without letting assumptions about status obscure the responsibility they can carry.
