A community learning to share

“And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.”Acts 2:42 · KJV

Read in your Bible: Acts 1–3.

The risen Jesus commissions His followers, and at Pentecost the Spirit enables witness across language barriers. Those who receive the message continue in teaching, fellowship, shared meals and prayer. A healing at the temple gate then points attention to Christ rather than the apostles' own power.

The Spirit's work forms a community as well as empowering speech. Shared life should include learning, practical generosity and prayer, not merely an impressive gathering. Pentecost's particular signs are not a required performance by which every believer's sincerity can be measured.

Choose one way to strengthen the shared life of faith: study, a meal, prayer or practical support. Make room for a person whose language or background differs from yours. Give credit to Christ rather than treating spiritual usefulness as personal status.

Holy Spirit, form us into a truthful and generous community centred on Christ. Help us learn together, pray sincerely and share practical care across the barriers that would otherwise keep us apart. Amen.
