Truth within our unity

“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”John 17:17 · KJV

Read in your Bible: John 17–18.

Jesus prays for His disciples and for those who will believe through their witness. He asks for their sanctification in truth and their unity, then goes toward arrest. His care for them continues while the cost of His own mission approaches.

Christian unity is deeper than avoiding every disagreement, and truth is more than a weapon for winning one. Christ's prayer holds both together under the Father's care. His arrest also exposes the inadequacy of violence as a way to defend His kingdom.

Choose a disagreement in which you can listen more carefully and speak more truthfully. Keep the person distinct from the issue and seek a constructive response. Do not use unity to silence credible harm or truth to excuse contempt.

A question to sit with

Am I using truth or unity to avoid a harder responsibility of love?

AN EVERYDAY ACT OF LOVE

Have one calm, specific conversation aimed at understanding and a truthful next step.

Let us pray

Praying Saviour, form a unity grounded in truth and love. Help me listen without abandoning conviction, speak without contempt and refuse both coercion and the silence that would conceal real harm. Amen.
