A person beyond the accusation

“Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.”John 9:3 · KJV

Read in your Bible: John 8–9.

Jesus' teaching provokes conflict, and He meets a man blind from birth. The disciples ask whose sin caused the blindness, but Jesus rejects their proposed blame. The healed man's testimony later meets pressure from leaders unwilling to reconsider their conclusions.

Disability is not a reliable measure of personal or parental sin. Jesus' particular healing reveals God's work without requiring us to promise the same outcome to everyone. The man's agency and clear account also challenge a community that prefers preserving authority to hearing inconvenient evidence.

Remove an unfair assumption about someone's condition or family. Ask what support or access would help and listen to the answer. If you hear a testimony, value accurate details over the pressure to make it fit an expected narrative.

A question to sit with

What assumption about suffering have I accepted without evidence?

AN EVERYDAY ACT OF LOVE

Challenge one unfair explanation of a person's condition and support a practical accessibility need.

Let us pray

Light of the world, correct the blame we attach to conditions we do not understand. Help us honour every person's dignity, listen to truthful evidence and offer practical care without promises we cannot make. Amen.
