Mercy after the waters

“I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.”Genesis 9:13 · KJV

Read in your Bible: Genesis 7–9.

After the flood, Noah leaves the ark and builds an altar. God establishes a covenant with Noah, his descendants and living creatures. The rainbow belongs to this promise, following a judgment Genesis describes as grievous and devastating.

God's covenant is not permission to dismiss the value of life. The same chapter forbids bloodshed and grounds human dignity in God's image. Survival calls the family toward gratitude and responsibility, not the illusion that they can live without God.

Receive the world as a trust rather than a possession. Avoid declaring that a neighbour's disaster is God's punishment; this narrative gives no authority to diagnose individual suffering that way.
