Rebellion beneath religious habits

“And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God.”Ezekiel 20:20 · KJV

Read in your Bible: Ezekiel 20–21.

Ezekiel recounts Israel's repeated rebellion, including the profaning of God's Sabbaths. The Sabbath is named as a sign of the relationship between the Lord and His people. The historical review exposes a pattern that outward religious identity cannot conceal.

The seventh-day Sabbath directs attention to the God who sanctifies, rather than proving human superiority. Its meaning is contradicted when its observance coexists with deliberate injustice or contempt. Grace calls for a whole-life response in which sacred time and ordinary conduct belong together.

Prepare to receive Sabbath as rest, worship and allegiance to God. Ask whether your weekday treatment of others fits the faith you express then. Choose one practical repair that makes your profession more truthful.
