Guard the source

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”Proverbs 4:23 · KJV

Read in your Bible: Proverbs 2–6.

The opening instructions of Proverbs urge the learner to seek wisdom, trust the Lord and guard the heart. Warnings about harmful company and destructive choices make the teaching practical. Wisdom concerns the direction from which daily actions flow.

Guarding the heart is more than avoiding uncomfortable information. It involves giving attention to the desires, loyalties and habits that shape our conduct. Proverbs offers wise patterns for life, not mechanical guarantees that a careful person will escape every loss.

Notice what repeatedly feeds resentment, envy or a desire to deceive. Choose a healthier source of attention and seek support where a habit is difficult to change. Protect space for Scripture and relationships that encourage honest, loving conduct.

A question to sit with

What recurring influence is shaping my desires more than I intend?

AN EVERYDAY ACT OF LOVE

Replace one unhelpful period of attention with Scripture, a constructive task or a caring conversation.

Let us pray

Wise Father, attend to the source of my choices. Help me recognise harmful influences, choose habits that nourish truth and love, and receive the support needed to change what I cannot manage alone. Amen.
