A promise beyond one lifetime

“But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.”Genesis 50:20 · KJV

Read in your Bible: Genesis 48–50.

Jacob blesses his descendants, dies in Egypt and is buried in Canaan. Afterward Joseph's brothers fear retaliation. Joseph again distinguishes their harmful intention from God's preserving purpose and later asks that his bones be carried out of Egypt.

The promise outlives the generation receiving it. Joseph does not seize God's place as judge or pretend that evil was good. His final request expresses confidence that Egypt is not the family's ultimate home, though he will not live to see the departure.

Make one faithful choice whose benefit may reach beyond your own lifetime. Teaching, honest records, restored trust and patient service can all honour a future you cannot personally control.

What faithful responsibility matters even if I never see its result?

AN EVERYDAY ACT OF LOVE

Pass on a useful skill or put an important household responsibility in good order.

Let us pray

Faithful God, hold my life within purposes larger than my own years. Restrain revenge, teach me patient trust and help me leave something truthful and generous for those who follow. Amen.
