Faithfulness after a mentor

“And Joash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest.”2 Chronicles 24:2 · KJV

Read in your Bible: 2 Chronicles 22–24.

Joash does what is right while Jehoiada guides him and oversees repairs to the temple. After the priest's death, the king turns aside and rejects correction, even allowing Zechariah to be killed. A promising beginning collapses when wise influence is gone.

A mentor can nurture faith but cannot permanently substitute for personal allegiance to God. Gratitude should also outlast the usefulness of a relationship. Joash's later cruelty exposes the danger of religious habits that depend entirely on a respected person's presence.

Thank a mentor while deliberately strengthening your own engagement with Scripture and prayer. Ask how you respond when guidance becomes uncomfortable. Practise one conviction because it is right before God, not merely because someone you admire expects it.

A question to sit with

Which conviction would remain active if the person who taught it were absent?

AN EVERYDAY ACT OF LOVE

Practise a clear conviction independently and thank someone whose guidance helped form it.

Let us pray

Faithful Father, thank You for those who have guided me. Root my trust in You, make gratitude durable and help me receive correction even when a familiar mentor is no longer beside me. Amen.
