Seeking guidance in the dark

“And when Saul enquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.”1 Samuel 28:6 · KJV

Read in your Bible: 1 Samuel 26–28.

David again spares Saul, while Saul's desperation eventually leads him to a medium after he has rejected God's direction. The encounter at Endor belongs to a story of disobedience and fear. Scripture's prohibition of consulting the dead remains relevant to reading the episode.

Adventist understanding reads this account alongside the Bible's teaching that the dead await resurrection and its rejection of spirit consultation. The medium's claim must not become a reason to seek such practices. Desperation calls for repentance and trustworthy help, not forbidden guidance.

If fear is pushing you toward a source of supposed supernatural certainty, stop and seek biblical counsel. Bring the uncertainty to God plainly. Use appropriate practical support instead of expecting secret knowledge to remove the need for responsible decisions.
