You are invited to abide.

“Abide in me, and I in you.”John 15:4 · KJV

Read in your Bible: John 15:1–12.

Jesus speaks about a vine and its branches on the night before His crucifixion. He does not ask the disciples to manufacture life within themselves. He asks them to remain in Him. The branch bears fruit because it receives life from the vine.

We can fill a day with useful things and still forget the One who gives our lives meaning. Even religious activity can become hurried. In this passage, Jesus brings us back to dependence: His words dwelling in us, our hearts turning to Him in prayer, and His love shaping our obedience.

Abiding is not an escape from loving others. Jesus leads from the vine to the command to love one another. What we receive in fellowship with Him becomes patience at home, honesty at work, and attention to a neighbour. These acts do not earn His love; they are its fruit.

Begin where you are. Open the passage. Tell Jesus honestly what is occupying your heart. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you carry His words into the ordinary moments of this day.

A question to sit with

Where am I trying to produce fruit without first making room for Jesus?

AN EVERYDAY ACT OF LOVE

Give someone your undivided attention today. Put your phone away, listen carefully, and ask how you can help.

Let us pray

Lord Jesus, help me to remain in You. Let Your Word shape my thoughts and Your love shape my actions. Teach me to depend on You today. Amen.
